Invisalign gives patients of all ages something to smile about, literally. Teenagers and parents can go through the process of realigning their smiles together now, and nobody besides them would know about it. Not everyone had the chance to get old-fashioned braces when they were a child and now feel too old to wear bulky metal brackets. Invisalign now gives those people the opportunity to have the straight smile they always dreamed of!
Being on the cutting edge of technology, Invisalign utilizes computer 3-D imaging to precisely plan how your teeth will move into place each step of the way. It is also proven to work by guiding teeth in to place gently with the use of aligners, instead of pulling them with metal brackets.
Not only are they practical for your life, but functional as well. Invisalign is proven to work, and now Dr. Koeppel, director of Koeppel Dental Group, offers Invisalign as an alternative to traditional braces.
What Is It?
Invisalign takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created for you and only you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you simply wear over your teeth (straightening your teeth has never been easier). Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements that Dr. Koeppel and Invisalign plans out for you. There are no metal brackets to attach and no wires to tighten. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign® is made with 3-D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective.
Over 50% of Americans have gum disease. Gum disease ultimately results in the loss of bone structure and teeth, if left untreated. Bacteria that seep into the periodontal pockets surrounding teeth results in inflammation and infection, causing gum disease and more importantly a risk for cardiovascular disease, heart attack and stroke. The MyPerioID PST test identifies genetic susceptibility to gum disease and detects if you have any changes in your DNA. This information allows our doctors at Koeppel Dental Group to decipher if you are at an increased risk for more severe periodontal infections due to an exaggerated immune response.
Why Would I Want It?
Dr. Koeppel, director of Koeppel Dental Group, says, “Your hygiene actually improves using Invisalign.” You can remove the aligners anytime to eat and drink what you want with ease. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. With Invisalign you have fewer visits to Koeppel Dental Group, so you will be straightening your teeth while you’re out living your life! Most importantly, your crooked teeth will now be straight, making them less susceptible to chipping, and gum disease.
How Does It Work?
You wear each set of aligners for 1-2 weeks, only removing them to eat, drink, brush, and floss. You will visit Koeppel Dental Group once every four to eight weeks to make sure your treatment is going as planned. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.
