How Do I Take Care Of My Dentures?
- Clean daily: Brush your dentures with a soft-bristled brush and denture cleanser or mild soap.
- After removal: Brush your tongue gums and palate, or clean with gauze wrapped around your finger. This will increase the blood circulation in your mouth.
- Soak nightly: Place dentures in a cleaning solution or warm water to retain shape and remove plaque.
- Store properly: Keep dentures in cool water or cleaning solution when not in use.
- Remove before bed: Take out your dentures before bed to give your mouth time to rest.
- Clean over a towel: Clean dentures over a towel or bowl of water to prevent damage from drops, use dishwashing soap, (see video).
- Avoid hot water: Never clean dentures with boiling water, which can warp them.
- Use gentle cleaners: Avoid abrasive powders or whitening toothpaste that may scratch dentures, use dishwashing soap (see video).
- Follow manufacturer’s guidelines: Stick to the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and soaking.
- Visit a professional: See a dental professional for cleaning if stains or buildup occur.
